Crafted with passion, served with love

Where Fine Dining Meets the Italian Table

Ambra sits on Store Kongensgade in Copenhagen, and from the moment you step inside, the space makes an impression. High ceilings lend the room a cathedral-like drama, while warm, tactile surfaces and carefully chosen artworks pull it back toward something intimate and almost domestic. The tension between grandeur and ease is deliberate — and it is exactly what chef Andreas Bagh was after.

Bagh built his reputation across some of Copenhagen's most recognised Michelin-starred kitchens before creating Esmée and then Ambra. With this restaurant, he set out to do something different: bring the rigour of fine dining to a room where no one feels they have to earn their place. The White Guide recognised the result as a "very fine level" restaurant, describing the concept as one that feels straight out of Tribeca — Italian immigrants adapting the mother cuisine into something informal, shareable and thoroughly Italian in spirit.

The Kitchen's Philosophy

The menu is grounded in Italian tradition and built around quality ingredients: fresh vegetables, fish and shellfish, well-sourced cuts of meat, and the classics that make Italian cooking so enduring. Homemade pasta, pizza, clean bright flavours and deep generous sauces all find their place here. The cooking is honest rather than showy — comfort food with precision behind it, refined without pretension.

Bagh's approach is to respect tradition while refining it with lightness and personality in an urban setting. Every dish is designed to be shared, though the format is entirely yours to decide. A full dinner, a glass of wine with a few plates at the bar, a seat at the crudo bar close to the kitchen's energy — Ambra accommodates all of it without making any feel like the lesser choice.

A Room That Moves at Its Own Pace

The bar is lively but never loud. The open kitchen sets the tempo in the main dining room. For larger occasions, a private dining room handles everything from corporate dinners to celebrations. Bar and restaurant flow into each other naturally, creating an atmosphere that is urban Copenhagen on the outside and warmly Italian at its core.

Ambra is, in the end, a place built around the table — around gathering, generosity and the kind of hospitality that doesn't announce itself.
