The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A square, a warm light, a table worth booking

On Skjolds Plads in Nørrebro, Oberra has become the kind of place people return to without needing a special occasion. The White Guide describes it plainly and accurately: a small oasis of peace amid one of Copenhagen's most bustling neighbourhoods, where bikes are parked outside and the room fills up quickly — because word travels fast when the cooking is this honest and the prices this reasonable.

What's on the table

The evening centres on a five-course set menu at 295 kr. per guest, served family style for the whole table to share. It's the chef's choice, which means the kitchen drives the direction and the guest simply settles in. For those who prefer to compose their own meal, an à la carte runs alongside it from 17:30. Dishes like monkfish cheeks in mussel blanquette with leek, pearl onion and shiso, or squid with kohlrabi, strawberry, peas and fennel, show a kitchen that moves confidently between land and sea without anchoring itself to any single tradition. Gnocchi with vadouvan, Gammelknas cheese and sage sits comfortably next to a puff pastry quiche with baked tomatoes and olive tapenade.

Lunch is its own thing — white asparagus with shrimp, piment d'Espelette and hollandaise; folded eggs on grilled focaccia with mushrooms; or simply a green salad. Snacks run all day: fried smelt with saffron mayo, oysters with shallot vinegar, fried artichoke hearts with sunflower tahini. The focaccia, which appears in multiple forms across the menu, is clearly a house staple worth ordering in any context.

The setting and the recognition

The White Guide's 2026 listing at Very Fine Level notes that the five-course menu — at what was then 250 kr. — draws a full room night after night. That recognition is grounded in something straightforward: Oberra doesn't try to be more than it is, and what it is turns out to be exactly what Nørrebro needs. A square outside, a warm room inside, and a kitchen sending out food that feels considered without being laboured over.
