The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Chic Modern Italian in the Heart of Calgary

Luca Restaurant describes itself as "original, sophisticated and inviting" — and the menu backs that up without hesitation. Situated at The Oliver on 10th Avenue SW, this upscale Italian destination is part of the Fleetwood Restaurant Group and has earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that speaks directly to the seriousness of its drinks program alongside its food.

The kitchen's commitment is clear from the outset: dishes are crafted from scratch, fresh pasta is made in-house, and authentic ingredients are imported directly from Italy. That foundation gives the Italian cooking here a sense of integrity that goes beyond surface-level styling.

What to Expect on the Plate

The menu moves confidently across Italian classics and Alberta-rooted ingredients. At lunch, Beef Carpaccio arrives with Alberta beef tenderloin, lemon and olive oil vinaigrette, crispy shallots, capers, and grana padano — a clean, precise dish. The Bucatini Carbonara, made with crispy guanciale, egg yolk, pecorino, parmesan, and black pepper, is a faithful rendition of a notoriously unforgiving classic.

Dinner opens up further. The Spicy Linguine Di Mare brings together jumbo prawns, Hokkaido scallops, Manila clams, and Humboldt squid in a spicy pomodoro, finished with pangrattato. For the table, the Bistecca — Alberta prime beef bone-in ribeye with truffle parmesan fingerling potatoes and a Luca Caesar — is available in limited quantities and commands the room. Equally ambitious is the Tomato Braised Bison Osso Buco, a whole braised Noble Premium Bison hind shank served with pomodoro potato purée and red wine veal jus.

Desserts stay true to the Italian register: a Tiramisu with mascarpone mousse and espresso-drenched ladyfingers, Cannoli with Nutella ricotta filling and roasted hazelnut, and an Affogato with vanilla gelato, espresso, and cantucci.

The Setting and the Experience

Luca is designed for both personal occasions and client entertaining — an upscale, stylish environment that holds its own whether the table is a date night or a business dinner. The Sunday Evening Date Night Special ($99 for two) offers a structured, well-priced path through the menu: bread service, a shared salad, an 8oz tenderloin with accompaniments, and a dessert each.

The wine list, recognized by Wine Spectator, completes a picture of a restaurant that takes Italian hospitality seriously — from the imported pantry to the last pour.
