When Café Sommersko first opened on Kronprinsensgade in 1976, it introduced a generation of Copenhageners to their first cappuccino, served at marble café tables from France on red vinyl sofas. That moment lodged itself in the city's collective memory, and the café became a benchmark for what a great Copenhagen gathering place could be.

The café has since moved to Palægade 6 in the heart of Copenhagen K, and the look has changed along with much of the menu — but the energy that made the original so formative has followed it. The White Guide recognized this in its 2026 edition, awarding Sommersko its "Very Fine Level" distinction and noting specifically that the vibrant vibe of the original has not been lost despite the transformation.

All Day, Into the Night

The café runs from morning through late night, offering breakfast, lunch, and evening menus alongside a dedicated drinks list — the kind of breadth that sustains a true neighborhood institution rather than a single-occasion destination. Private dining and event menus are available for groups, and the restaurant periodically hosts its "Days of Tasting" format for those who want a more structured experience.

Café Sommersko is part of the Sovino Brands group, which operates a number of respected Copenhagen addresses, but it carries its own distinct identity — one built over nearly five decades of serving the city.
