Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai

Prada's first independent fine dining space in Asia, inside historic Rong Zhai villa, blending Italian and Chinese culinary traditions in Jing'an, Shanghai.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Villa, a Fashion House, and a Filmmaker

Inside a meticulously restored 1920s villa on North Shaanxi Road, Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai stands as Prada's first independent fine dining destination in Asia. The project was conceived in collaboration with filmmaker Wong Kar Wai, whose signature concept of Tête-bêche — mirrored, inverted forms — shapes the entire space. The result is an environment where Milan and Shanghai exist in quiet conversation: Prada art collections alongside rare Chinese antiques, and a corridor lit with the same measured rhythm as In the Mood for Love.

Art, Craft, and Cultural Dialogue

The interiors draw directly from the villa's 2017 restoration, with each room reflecting its original function. A standout element is the Rising Clouds, Blooming Flowers woodblock print series, produced in collaboration with the Duo Yun Xuan Art Center — traditional craftsmanship rendered in Shanghai's vibrant visual language. The third floor, called the Apartment, extends the experience further, offering exclusive Prada products and bespoke services, while also serving as a cultural salon for rotating art exhibitions and semiannual events.

Where the Kitchen Becomes a Dialogue

Situated on the second floor, the restaurant and café operate throughout the day, moving from a continuous café service into a full fine dining experience by evening. Executive Chef Riccardo La Perna and Pastry Chef Diego Crosara lead the kitchen, crafting a menu that fuses Italian and Chinese culinary traditions — not as a novelty, but as a genuine exchange of ingredients, techniques, and flavour sensibilities. The approach treats gastronomy as another form of cultural expression, consistent with everything else happening within Rong Zhai's walls.

That philosophy has earned serious recognition: Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai is listed in the Michelin Guide 2026 for Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, and has been awarded 2 Forks in the Gambero Rosso Top Italian Restaurants 2026 — placing it among the most distinguished Italian fine dining addresses in China.
