The story
Kuori has been making the case for vegetables in Turku since 2016, occupying a 1960s street-level space on Hämeenkatu and turning it into what the restaurant itself describes as "a green oasis with just the right amount of roughness and eye-pleasing beauty." The name carries a quiet nod to the Italian word cuori — hearts — and the kitchen's dedication to vegetables is exactly that: wholehearted.
The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed, but the food is taken seriously. Raw materials come from local producers whenever possible, the menu rotates with the seasons, and organic vegetables are used as a rule rather than an exception. It is the kind of place where care shows on the plate without anyone needing to announce it.
White Guide recognised Kuori at its Fine level, calling it "an oasis for those seeking a vegetarian lunch with ravishing colors and fresh ingredients." The lunch buffet is the engine of that reputation: a well-judged spread of salads and warm dishes, kept moving at a pace that matches a full dining room. The falafels — crispy and golden outside, green and scrumptious within — are singled out for particular praise, and rightly so. Alongside them: lemony tomato sauce, grilled herby potatoes and zucchini, and a velvety, creamy hummus that finishes the plate. A glass of wine is available for five euros, and drip coffee from local roastery Turun Kahvipaahtimo rounds things off cleanly.
Come evening, Kuori shifts into a more considered mode. The à la carte menu offers starters such as honey turnip tataki with wild garlic mayo, ponzu and sesame, or battered tofu wings with a chili glaze and Som Tam salad. Mains include a falafel pita loaded with garlic hummus, tzatziki and pickled cucumber, and a roasted carrot dish with white garlic wine sauce, crispy tofu, seasonal peas and Västerbotten cheese.
For the full experience, the tasting menu — available at 49 € per person with an optional wine pairing at 41 € — showcases the kitchen's more composed side, with dishes designed to be prepared vegan and gluten-free on request. Seasonal special menus, such as the Midsommar Magic four-course format, appear throughout the year and reflect the same seasonal vegetarian philosophy that has defined Kuori from the start.
