The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Black Timber House with a Surprise Inside

From the outside, Roks looks like any other authentic black-painted wooden house with a grass roof in Tórshavn's historic harbour quarter, the kind of building that has stood quietly beside the marina for generations. Step through the door and the picture shifts completely. A café-style checkerboard floor, carefully arranged flowers, and the playful works of local artist Tóroddur Poulsen covering the walls set the tone. Radiohead plays softly in the background. The atmosphere is at once retro-cosy and unmistakably city-cool – the sort of room that could hold its own on a corner in Copenhagen, Paris, or New York, yet belongs entirely to the Faroe Islands.

Where Tórshavn Meets the World

That particular tension – local and cosmopolitan, unhurried and sharply considered – is precisely what earned Roks recognition at the Masters level in the White Guide 2026. The award describes the restaurant as "a new favourite wine bar and an unpretentious gastronomic refuge of the very best kind," and it is hard to argue with that framing. Roks is the kind of place you do not fully understand until you are standing in the middle of it.

The restaurant sits in the same creative orbit as Koks, the Faroe Islands' internationally celebrated fine dining landmark, and carries that same commitment to quality without replicating its format. Roks is looser, warmer in register – a place for a long evening rather than a formal occasion, though the seriousness behind what lands on the table is never in doubt.

An Evening Worth Planning For

Roks opens Tuesday through Sunday from 18:00, making it a natural anchor for any dinner in Tórshavn. The wine list is substantial enough to merit its own dedicated document, and the food menu changes with the seasons and what the islands offer. Whether you come for a glass and something small or settle in for the full experience, the room rewards staying.

For anyone travelling to the Faroe Islands with food in mind, Roks is not a detour – it is a destination.

White Guide — Masters level
