The story
Restaurant Tiende sits on the 10th and 11th floors of Nicolinehus in Aarhus Ø, with views stretching across city, sea and forest. The team behind Ferdinand and FF brought Tiende to life, and their ethos carries through: food and wine of the highest quality in surroundings that feel genuinely homely rather than ceremonious. As the restaurant puts it themselves, it's "helt nede på jorden" – completely down to earth.
The kitchen serves Danish cuisine across both lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Saturday. At lunch, the menu leans into the classics of the tradition: smørrebrød topped with smoked eel and scrambled egg, crispy-fried fish fillet with pea purée and sauce tartare, krogmodnet roastbeef with crispy onions and cold béarnaise, or the indulgent "lucky potato" with caviar, crème fraîche and chives. Caviar Baerii and Osciètra are available by the 30 or 50 gram, served with blinis and crème fraîche.
In the evening, the menu opens into more composed territory – white asparagus with ramsons and blanquette, langoustine with caramelised cream and pickled strawberries, rabbit croquette with pea siphon, and skin-roasted weever fish with green asparagus and turbot sauce. Meat dishes include a rosé-cooked onglet with grilled lemon and chimichurri, and a pluma of pork with rhubarb and charcuterie sauce. Desserts stay precise: Amalfi pavlova, rhubarb cheesecake, and a petit four of choux, kransekage and apple tart.
Adjoining the restaurant is Den Fede Drue, a bar and wine space where the evening can begin or continue long after the kitchen closes. The cellar spans more than 3,200 different wines, with a sommelier always present to guide guests through the selection. It is this depth and seriousness of the wine programme that earned Tiende and Den Fede Drue the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2023 – recognition that places the list among the most distinguished in Scandinavia. Signature cocktails and a full bar round out the offer, and the bar remains open for walk-ins throughout the week.
Tiende is reached by lift directly from the paid parking in Nicolinehus – a practical detail that makes the rooftop location feel effortless rather than remote. The combination of considered Danish cooking, a wine list built for serious exploration, and a room with a panoramic outlook over Aarhus makes for an evening that is easy to recommend and hard to replicate.
