Celebrated table

Bavn

Perched 142 metres above Aarhus Bay, Restaurant Bavn serves Nordic-modern menus with a 360° view from the top of the iconic Lighthouse.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A beacon above Aarhus

The name says it all. Bavn is an old Danish word for a bonfire or signal fire — a light kindled high up to guide the way. At 142 metres above sea level, on the 44th floor of the Lighthouse tower at Aarhus Ø, Restaurant Bavn lives up to that name completely. The 360-degree panorama takes in the whole of Aarhus, the bay, and the forests of Jutland stretching beyond — a view that has become a destination in its own right.

The duo behind the kitchen

The restaurant is run by Stefanie Petersen and Mia Christensen, whose personal stamp is felt across every element of the experience. Their approach is grounded in proud craft traditions and attentive, present service — what the team describes as nærværende service. The drinks list, ranging from soft to sharp, is curated with equal care, and the menus shift with mood and season rather than following a fixed script.

Lunch every day, dinner on selected evenings

Bavn operates as a modern Nordic lunch restaurant open all seven days of the week, with the kitchen serving through the afternoon. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings — and on select other nights — the restaurant opens for dinner, presenting a seasonal menu that changes according to what inspires the kitchen at that moment. Private parties and events are also a natural fit here: the venue offers an intimate yet spectacular setting, with a four-course menu with matched wines or juices available for groups.

Recognition well above the rooftops

White Guide 2026 awarded Bavn its Very Fine Level distinction, noting that the restaurant "shines a culinary light across the country" and is a place worth navigating to — high praise that reflects both the kitchen's ambition and the singular setting. The guide's reviewers were quick to point out that while the view alone draws visitors willing to pay for the elevator ride up, the food and hospitality make the table a destination entirely separate from the spectacle outside the windows.

For a Nordic dining experience that combines serious cooking with one of Scandinavia's most dramatic dining rooms, Bavn is the clear pejlemærke — the landmark — of Aarhus.

White Guide — Very fine level

It takes only 30 seconds for the elevator to take us from promenade level up to the highest‑located restaurant in the country. Restaurant Bavn hovers on the 44th floor of the iconic Lighthouse, offering a spectacular 360‑degree view of the Jutland capital, Aarhus Bay, and the surrounding nature. The view itself has rightly become a destination for many, but it would be a shame to miss an extra sky‑high experience (especially since you’ve already paid 130 kr for the elevator ride) if you don’t also book a table at the Nordic‑modern lunch restaurant run by the duo Stefanie Petersen and Mia Christensen. Bavn shines a culinary light across the country, making it a place worth navigating to.
