The story
Since 2011, Pizza e Pazzi has been making a straightforward case on St. Clair Avenue West: that authentic Neapolitan pizza demands great ingredients, real craft, and a wood-fired oven burning at exactly 485°C. That conviction has earned the restaurant recognition from Gambero Rosso, Italy's most authoritative food guide — a distinction that places it among a very small group of Canadian pizzerias to appear on that stage.
The address puts the restaurant squarely in Toronto's Corso Italia neighbourhood, and the setting feels right for it. This is a part of the city with deep Italian roots, and Pizza e Pazzi leans into that history without theatrics.
Pizza e Pazzi holds certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), one of only a handful of restaurants in Canada to do so. The certification is not decorative. It means dough hand-stretched from Tipo 00 flour, San Marzano style tomatoes, fresh fior di latte mozzarella, and a bake time of 60 to 90 seconds in a wood-fired oven. The result is the characteristic blistered, flame-licked crust that defines the Neapolitan tradition.
The pizza menu spans both red and white bases. From the Pizze Rosse, the Margherita Verace keeps things elemental — fior di latte and basil — while the Diavola adds spicy salami and hot peppers, and the Tartufata layers prosciutto di parma, sautéed mushrooms, and white truffle oil over a white base. The Mortadella, finished with pistachios and a whole burrata, shows the kitchen is willing to push the form without abandoning it.
The pasta program is equally serious. The owner brings over twenty years of experience to a list that is made entirely in-house: pappardelle with slowly braised lamb ragù, tagliatelle all'Amatriciana with guanciale and pecorino, gnocchi alla Sorrentina, and spaghetti all'Aragosta with lobster tail and scallops. Gluten-free pasta substitution is available across the range.
Antipasti include Burrata e Parma with 24-month aged prosciutto di Parma, Carpaccio di Manzo, and the Polpette della Nonna — traditional meatballs in tomato sauce that guests consistently single out for their homemade character. Secondi extend to grilled branzino, beef short ribs braised in red wine, and grilled octopus with fried polenta.
The space accommodates intimate dinners for two up to seated gatherings of 50, and cocktail receptions for up to 80. Custom menus, full bar service with Italian wines, and a team experienced in celebration events make it a practical choice for birthdays, communions, and corporate occasions alike — something guests have noted repeatedly in reviews.
Pizza e Pazzi is the kind of place that earns its Gambero Rosso recognition not through novelty but through consistency: the same certified method, the same wood-fired oven, the same neighbourhood, more than a decade on.
