FK Restaurant

Chef Frank Parhizgar and Shawn Cooper's Michelin-recommended Toronto restaurant blends French classics with modern Canadiana and a 400-label wine list.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Fifteen Years in the Making

FK Restaurant is the product of a long, deliberate story. Chef Frank Parhizgar and his co-owner and wife Shawn Cooper first opened Frank's Kitchen on College Street in 2010, building a loyal following of serious food lovers over seven years in Little Italy. In 2017 they moved to 770 St. Clair Avenue West, reborn as FK — and the neighbourhood has never been the same. Fifteen years on, the "everything from scratch" and "sourcing local ingredients" philosophy that drove them from the start remains the engine of everything that comes out of the kitchen.

The Cooking

The menu is grounded in French classics with what the restaurant calls a modern Canadiana twist. Because it is entirely ingredient-driven, it changes constantly — whatever is fresh and in season shapes what lands on the plate. Critic Joanne Kates wrote in PostCity that "there really is no other chef in Toronto whose cooking is as detailed and complex as Frank's," and Dine magazine called his menus "sophisticated, conscientious, gorgeous and impeccable." The Toronto Star awarded the restaurant 3.5 out of 4, noting that "chef Parhizgar turns each plate into a celebration." A tasting menu is available by advance booking, with optional wine pairing and a grand wine tasting option for those who want to go deeper.

The Wine

The wine list runs to over 400 labels — a blend of classic recognizable favourites, smaller-production limited editions, and hard-to-find high-end collectables, all chosen with food pairing in mind. That commitment to the cellar earned FK the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2024, one of the guide's most respected recognitions for depth and breadth of selection. A Coravin system means serious bottles are also available by the glass.

The Room and the People

Shawn Cooper runs the business and the front of house; Frank runs the kitchen. That division of talent produces what Dine magazine described as service that is "honest and genuine." The space itself has been called "a beacon of elegance" on St. Clair West, yet the atmosphere is decidedly unpretentious — warm, neighbourhood-rooted, the kind of place Ralph Fiennes described as somewhere "food, friendship and life is celebrated." The Michelin Guide agreed, recommending FK in 2023. Chef Frank also took gold representing Toronto at Canada's Great Kitchen Party that same year, underscoring a reputation that now extends well beyond the city.

A Note on the Tasting Menu

The French-Canadian tasting menu requires a minimum 24-hour advance booking and full-table participation. Vegetarian options are available with advance notice.
