The Cliff

Award-winning Contemporary Caribbean fine dining on Barbados's Platinum Coast, with ocean views, sushi, and Chef Jordan Bayes's 7-course tasting menu.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

On a dramatic stretch of Barbados's Platinum Coast in Derricks, St. James, The Cliff has earned its reputation as one of the Caribbean's most distinguished dining addresses. Three consecutive appearances on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list — ranked as high as 28th in 2004 — speak to a standard of cooking and hospitality that has drawn guests from across the globe to this beachfront venue.

The Setting

The dining room sits directly above the water's edge, where the Caribbean Sea provides a backdrop that changes with the light. For private occasions, an elegantly designed upper-level room offers what the restaurant describes as one of the best sea views on the island — a fitting frame for intimate dinners or celebrations that call for something genuinely memorable.

Chef Jordan Bayes and the Menu

The kitchen is led by Chef Jordan Bayes, whose signature is a 7-course tasting menu titled A Taste of The Cliff — a progression of dishes that reflects his considered, craft-driven approach. Alongside it, the à la carte menu draws on fine ingredients sourced from around the world, with a vegetarian and vegan selection that runs from an Avocado Salad with chilli oil and seeded cracker through to a Cep Risotto made with island-grown mushrooms. Starters such as Snake River Farm Gold Wagyu Beef Tartare, Yellow Fin Tuna with yuzu dressing and seaweed cracker, and Organic Salmon, Langoustine & Lobster Raviolone with bisque foam illustrate the kitchen's range within Contemporary Caribbean fine dining.

The Sushi Counter

A dedicated sushi bar lets guests watch chefs prepare fresh sushi and sashimi to order — a combination of locally sourced ingredients and traditional technique. The counter offers rolls ranging from a Kingfish Tiradito with yuzu truffle dressing to Japanese Wagyu A5 nigiri, sitting comfortably alongside the broader Contemporary Caribbean menu rather than feeling like a separate concept.

Bar, Lounge and Sunday Lunch

The bar team produces signature cocktails alongside a carefully curated wine list, and a collection of Cuban cigars paired with selected spirits adds a distinctive after-dinner option. On Sundays, The Cliff opens at noon for a family-oriented lunch — a more relaxed expression of the same kitchen, priced at $250 BBD for adults and $125 BBD for children under twelve.

The combination of world-recognised cooking, an irreplaceable setting above the sea, and the breadth of what's on offer — from a seven-course tasting menu to a live sushi counter — makes The Cliff a compelling reason to visit St. James.
