The story
Open since 2012, Gulfstream Lounge & Grill has built a steady reputation in Kelowna by staying true to a straightforward promise: value with style. The menu leans on fresh local ingredients drawn from Okanagan Valley producers, and the drinks program — a 100+ bottle wine list, local craft beers, and seasonally designed cocktails — has earned the restaurant a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that speaks directly to the depth and curation behind the cellar.
At the centre of it all is Chef Slavo Grunwald, who joined Gulfstream in August 2019. Born and raised in Poland, Slavo trained at the Collegiate of Gastronomy before earning his Red Seal Certification in Toronto in 1998 — the same year he immigrated to Canada. With over 30 years of culinary experience across major hotel and conference properties, and influences spanning Euro, Asian, and Mediterranean food cultures, he brings a wide technical range to a kitchen that prizes consistency above all. He is on the line daily, working alongside his team and training them to meet his exacting standards for presentation and delivery.
The Canadian menu at Gulfstream moves comfortably across occasions and appetites. Starters include Chinese Five Spice Duck Spring Rolls, Smoked Duck Breast with apple, celery, grapes, and walnuts, and a Baked Brie with black garlic jam. Main plates range from a Blackened Wagyu Top Sirloin and a 10oz New York Striploin to Braised Short Rib with wasabi mashed potatoes, Sea Bass Green Thai Curry, and a Bison Bolognese Fettuccini made with house-crafted pasta. The Okanagan Harvest pizza — peppered steak strips, blue cheese, caramelized onions, grilled apple, and balsamic glaze — is a particular nod to the region's produce.
The room is designed to flex: equally at home for a power lunch, a family dinner, a post-work drink, or game-day on one of eight lounge TVs. Heated patios extend the season outdoors. Beyond the Wine Spectator recognition, Gulfstream has also taken home the Okanagan Spirits Mixoff title and the Mott's Clamato Caesar BC crown — a fitting pair of accolades for a bar program that takes its craft seriously. Happy hour runs daily from 3 to 6 pm, and a Grab and Go menu makes the kitchen's output accessible beyond the dining room.
