The story
The Jane has never been just a restaurant. Since opening its doors, it has stood as a place where culinary vision, emotion and perfection converge into something far greater than a meal. Now settled in its striking new home on Het Eilandje — Antwerp's oldest harbour neighbourhood — The Jane begins a bold new chapter while keeping its soul firmly intact.
On 5 October 2025, The Jane moved to the monumental Montevideo site on Het Eilandje, a district once defined by the rhythms of international shipping, where warehouses lined the docks and ships from every corner of the globe deposited their cargo. Today, those robust industrial structures have been transformed into the Montevideo Residence — a compelling crossroads of heritage and contemporary luxury. It is here, between the Scheldt River and the Kattendijk Dock, that The Jane found its natural next home: open, urban, and full of forward momentum.
The interior, conceived by Nicolas Schuybroek Architects, is a journey of contrasts — brutalist in its framework yet full of refined detail and sensory surprise. Power and tenderness. Sound and silence. Robustness and finesse. At the centre of it all: a lively open kitchen, the beating heart of the experience.
Leading the kitchen is Nick Bril, whose culinary philosophy is captured in a single phrase: locally sourced, world inspired. Vegetables serve as the linchpin in a seasonal play of flavours. Fish is allowed to ripen. Shellfish and crustaceans are celebrated. Meat is present, but never excessive. It is a thoughtful, carefully curated modern fusion cuisine — one where new techniques honour a classical foundation, and where sustainability and taste walk hand in hand.
"It has to be delicious," says Bril. "But there's more to it." His cooking carries a message: that enjoyment not only can exist, but must. Even in the most difficult times, a moment of happiness — of pure pleasure — is something every person deserves.
Guests can experience this modern fusion cuisine across several distinct menu formats, from the accessible The Jane at Noon lunch (€175 per person, Thursdays and Fridays) to the immersive The Jane's Signature dinner at €345 per person. The restaurant is open from Wednesday evening through Saturday.
The Jane's world-class standing has been consistently recognised by The World's 50 Best Restaurants, where it ranked 23rd in 2022, 39th in 2023, and 36th in 2024 — a testament to a kitchen that continues to evolve without ever losing sight of what matters most: that it has to be delicious.
