Beneath its architecture, Frédéric and Evangeline Chabbert have created something that feels both entirely of Antwerp and unmistakably Parisian — a proper French brasserie, where the clink of glasses and the aromas of slow, patient cooking fill a space that has earned its grandeur.

The Kitchen

The cooking at Dôme is described, in the restaurant's own words, as "apparently simple" — and that simplicity is the point. This is French cuisine rooted in timeless craft, open to modern technique but never seduced by it. The kitchen works exclusively with fresh produce, which means the menu shifts with availability, and dishes arrive with the kind of honest directness that only comes from knowing your ingredients well. Slow cooking sits alongside the energy of a working brasserie; forgotten techniques are revived with contemporary confidence. The result is food that stirs appetite and nostalgia in equal measure, without romanticising either.

The Setting and Spirit

The Dôme occupies a singular address at Grotehondstraat 2, in the heart of Antwerp. The rotunda gives the room a natural theatre, but the atmosphere Frédéric and Evangeline have built inside it is one of generosity rather than formality — a place suited to lunch with a colleague, dinner with family, or a private celebration in one of the dedicated private rooms. Outdoor seating extends the experience when the season allows.

The restaurant's wine program has drawn serious attention: Wine Spectator recognised Dôme with its Best of Award of Excellence, a mark of a cellar curated with real depth and intention — entirely in keeping with a house that takes French cuisine seriously from aperitif to digestif.

Orders for the lunch menu close at 13:15; for dinner, at 20:30 — a quiet signal that this kitchen works at its own considered pace, not against the clock.
