The story
After opening the award-winning Luca Italian Cuisine in downtown Cleveland in 2013, Chef Luca Sema brought his vision westward to Westlake, Ohio — and the result is a restaurant that feels both warmly familiar and genuinely refined. Described as a "country Tuscan ristorante," Luca West is the exclusive home of Chef Sema, whose approach blends traditional Northern Italian cooking with innovative daily specials that keep the menu alive and responsive to the season.
The restaurant earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2025, a recognition that reflects the depth and curation of a wine program offering selections from around the world, many available by the glass — designed to complement the food rather than overshadow it.
The dinner menu reads as a confident tour through Italian cuisine, from antipasti to dolce. Starters include a Carpaccio di Tartufo Nero — thinly sliced Kobe Wagyu beef with shaved black truffle and Parmigiano Reggiano — and a Sacchetti of white truffle and ricotta stuffed pasta with aged fig balsamic, which also appears as a main course. The pasta selection is extensive and largely handmade: Fettuccine alla Bolognese draws on ground veal, wild boar, filet tips, and duck braised with Cabernet Sauvignon; the Mare brings hand-cut tagliatelle together with clams, shrimp, and Pinot Grigio.
From the fish section, a whole Branzino is filleted tableside in brown butter citrus sauce, while Capesante pairs sautéed sea scallops with black truffle cream and pappardelle. The meat courses range from a prime dry-aged bone-in New York Strip to a slow-roasted Volcano wild boar shank braised in Chianti Classico. Desserts stay true to Italian tradition — house Tiramisu, Cannoli, and homemade seasonal Gelato among them — with a digestive list that spans grappa, amaro, and cognac for those who want to linger.
Luca West is also available for private events on-site and off-site catering, with custom menus designed to accommodate a range of formats and dietary needs. The combination of fine dining credentials, a celebrated wine program, and genuine flexibility for special occasions makes it a natural anchor for the west side Cleveland dining scene.
