The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Counter Where the Kitchen Has No Walls

Jônt holds two MICHELIN stars, a place on the World's 50 Best Discovery list, membership in both Relais & Châteaux and Les Grandes Tables du Monde, and a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence — a collection of distinctions that places it firmly among the most serious dining destinations in the United States. Yet what the restaurant emphasizes is not the hardware but the atmosphere: a tasting counter format deliberately designed to blur the line between kitchen and guest.

Chef Ryan Ratino and His Team

At the center of everything is Executive Chef and Owner Ryan Ratino, recipient of the 2023 MICHELIN Young Chef Award and a perennial presence on Washingtonian's Very Best Restaurants list. He leads a tightly composed team that includes Culinary Directors Brendan Mahon and Brandon Dienger, Executive Pastry Chef Yoonjung Oh, Chef de Cuisine Tyler LeBlanc, and Beverage Director Will Patton — a depth of talent that explains the consistency behind the recognition.

The Menu

The experience is built around a progressive tasting menu priced at $375 per person. The kitchen's philosophy, in its own words, is to showcase "the beauty of simple yet luxurious ingredients from around the world, with a special nod to the elegance of Japanese cuisine" — a sensibility that sits naturally alongside the restaurant's French foundations. The menu changes with the availability and seasonality of ingredients, and the team asks that any dietary restrictions be communicated at least seven days in advance so sourcing and preparation can be adjusted accordingly.

Special events occasionally reshape the format entirely: a Fourth of July edition, for example, offered a one-night-only five-course menu by Ratino built around exceptional American ingredients, paired with two curated all-American wine journeys. It is the kind of gesture that reflects both culinary confidence and a genuine engagement with place.

The Setting

Jônt is open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner, at 1904 14th Street NW in Washington, DC. The counter format means proximity to the kitchen is not incidental — it is the point. For guests who want to understand what they are eating and watch it being made, few formats in French fine dining are more direct.
