The story
The Galaxy Restaurant has been a fixture of Northeast Ohio hospitality since January 10, 2000, when Robert and Phyllis Leatherman opened its doors in Wadsworth. The Leathermans were no strangers to the industry — their history stretches back to a Manner's Big Boy in the 1950s and later Michael's Restaurant in downtown Barberton — but the Galaxy represented something more ambitious: a destination unlike anything local residents had experienced.
What they built is genuinely unusual. Four distinct venues share a single address: the Circle L Steakhouse, the Wine Room, the Sports Bar & Patio, and the Galaxy Banquet Center, which accommodates up to 500 guests.
The steakhouse is the anchor of the Galaxy's American dining identity. Beef here comes from the restaurant's own Circle L Ranch, raised all-natural and served with what the kitchen calls "big, bold flavors and the freshest of ingredients." That farm-to-table commitment runs through every venue on the property — nothing is outsourced when you own the ranch.
The Wine Room is where the Galaxy's most recognized accolade lives. Its wine list — numbering more than 450 selections from around the world — has earned the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence every year since 2002, a streak that speaks to genuine curatorial consistency rather than a one-time achievement. The room itself is described as "soft sophistication paired with cutting edge innovation," a relaxed, cozy setting built around the idea that wine should be approachable whether you're a collector or simply curious. A private Cellar room accommodates groups, and Thursday Discount Bottle Night makes the list accessible on a regular basis.
The Sports Bar & Patio brings a livelier register to the mix, open seven days a week with a full lunch menu and a rotating calendar of live music throughout summer. Saturday and Sunday brunch runs from 11AM to 2PM across the venues. The Banquet Center scales from intimate boardroom settings to full-service receptions, with dedicated menus for every format.
The Galaxy sits at the junction of I-76 and State Route 94, easily reachable from Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Medina — a practical location for a place that functions equally well as a weeknight steakhouse dinner, a wine-focused evening out, or a large-scale event.
