A Family Venture with Serious Culinary Roots

River Twist Food and Wine is a locally owned fine dining restaurant in Vero Beach, Florida, conceived and built by Chef Michael Amaral and his wife, Lorraine. The couple didn't just design the space — they were hands-on in the actual construction, from the chandeliers overhead to the poured concrete bar and ceramic tile underfoot. The result is a room that TCPalm's Maribeth Renne described as "industrial chic": red booths lining the walls, a large community high-top at the center, and an open bar at the rear.

Chef Michael's path to the kitchen was shaped early. His father was a culinary teacher, and that influence carried Michael through years of work at five-star hotels, private clubs, and top-tier restaurants. He and his family bring collectively over seventy years of hospitality experience to the table — a depth that shows in both the food and the service.

The menu at River Twist is rooted in American cuisine but consistently subverts expectations. Starters have included beef carpaccio, fried chicken livers, and tempura alligator — the gator bites drawing loyal fans on their own. A bison sloppy joe arrives on Texas toast with spicy tomato sauce. The cauliflower Reuben — sauerkraut, Thousand Island, and Swiss on grilled marble rye — holds its own alongside the meat dishes. Chimichurri beef tenderloin is plated with romaine, tomato, grilled onion, and crumbled blue cheese. Blackened fish tacos come with lime wasabi, pico de gallo, and chipotle cream. House-made desserts, including a flourless chocolate cake, close things out.

The menu rotates with specials — black cod, Ahi tuna, beef tenderloin tornados have all made appearances — keeping regulars coming back to see what's new.
