PY Steakhouse is the flagship dining experience of Casino Del Sol, operated under the auspices of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The name carries that weight deliberately — this is a steakhouse that takes its role as Tucson's finest seriously, and the recognition it has earned backs that claim. Wine Spectator honored PY with its Best of Award of Excellence in 2024, a distinction that reflects a wine program of genuine depth: more than one thousand selections from the cellar, spanning international origins and including bottles from Arizona's own top vintners.

Chef Carlos Ochoa and the Sonoran Influence

The kitchen is led by Chef de Cuisine Carlos Ochoa, whose story is as grounded as the food he cooks. Born in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, he grew up harvesting produce from his grandmother's garden and learning butchery from his uncles. His first restaurant job at a local resort confirmed a calling, and he later trained in Chicago before staging at Per Se and Alinea — two of the most technically demanding kitchens in the United States. Now rooted in Tucson, Ochoa brings that classical rigor to ingredients specific to the Sonoran Desert, producing dishes that reflect the region rather than simply referencing it.

The menu centers on aged, prime-cut meats and the freshest seafood, elevated through what the restaurant describes as "inspiring food artistry." A weekly Prime Rib Night every Wednesday offers slow-roasted prime rib served with grilled asparagus and mashed potato — a straightforward expression of what this steakhouse does well.

The Room, the Bar, and the Wine Cellar

The dining room is matched by a private space finished in wine-cellar décor, available for special events and intimate gatherings — a natural fit for a restaurant that also holds a private dining designation. Just outside, the PY Bar offers classic and signature cocktails from the restaurant's own mixologists, providing a quieter setting before or after dinner.

PY Steakhouse is also among the restaurants certified by Tucson's City of Gastronomy program, recognizing its connection to the local food system, its community ties, and its role in keeping the region's food heritage alive.
