Morton's, The Steakhouse

Morton's Troy brings USDA prime-aged beef, fresh seafood, and a Wine Spectator-awarded list to the Detroit area in an elegant, classic setting.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The story of Morton's, The Steakhouse begins with a hamburger. Co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch first crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal, where Klaus cooked a burger so memorable that Arnie charged into the kitchen demanding to know who made it. That encounter — and what they came to call the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — set in motion a partnership that launched the first Morton's on State Street in Chicago in 1978. More than four decades later, the brand has grown to over 65 locations worldwide, with the Troy, Michigan outpost serving the greater Detroit area on West Big Beaver Road.

Quality, Consistency, Genuine Hospitality

Those three words are the operating philosophy Morton's has held since day one. The steakhouse sources USDA Prime-aged beef — representing the top 2% of beef available in the United States — from the same suppliers it has used from the beginning. If the cut doesn't meet Morton's standards, it doesn't reach the plate. The result is what the restaurant straightforwardly calls "The Best Steak...Anywhere," a claim backed by decades of repeat guests and long-tenured staff who have been with the company for decades.

The menu extends well beyond beef. Morton's pairs its prime steakhouse credentials with fresh seafood — Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, Red King Crab Legs — making land-and-sea combinations a natural part of the experience. Seasonal additions rotate through the menu, with recent features including Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail.

A Wine Program Worth the Recognition

The wine list at Morton's Troy holds the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a collection of more than 300 labels spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. General Managers and on-staff sommeliers are available to guide pairings, and an on-site Wine Locker program allows guests to store personal selections. Morton's has also introduced "State & Rush," a private label honoring its Chicago roots, offering a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California.

The Full Experience

The atmosphere moves between a lively bar scene — hand-crafted cocktails, craft brews, chef-selected bar bites — and elegant dining rooms suited to everything from a quiet dinner to a business function. Private dining rooms accommodate special events and catering, and Morton's Prime Events bring seasonal wine dinners and charity evenings to the calendar throughout the year. Every guest, the restaurant maintains, is treated like a VIP.
