The story
Basta began as a shared vision between husband and wife Saverio and Devon Posarelli, who met, lived, and cooked their way through Italy before bringing that experience back to California. Saverio leads the kitchen with expert craftsmanship, while Devon anchors the front of house with warmth and purpose. What they built together has become one of the most celebrated Italian dining experiences in Conejo Valley, earning recognition from Gambero Rosso — Italy's most authoritative food guide — with a Forchetta award.
Every dish at Basta is made from scratch daily. The menu draws inspiration from the diverse regions of Italy — Tuscany, Sicily, Florence, and beyond — with ingredients that are either locally sourced in California or imported directly from Italy. Organic produce, artisan cheeses, hand-selected meats, and fresh seafood form the foundation of a kitchen that treats quality as non-negotiable.
The Italian cuisine here spans hand-rolled pastas, fire-grilled Florentine steaks cooked over a mesquite fire, pizza, and seasonal specialties that shift as ingredients peak. The menu evolves throughout the year, keeping the cooking honest and grounded in what's actually fresh.
Basta regularly hosts special events that extend its Italian identity beyond the everyday menu — past evenings have featured visiting chefs from Parma and Venice, truffle dinners with curated wine pairings from Emilia-Romagna, and hands-on Venetian cooking workshops. These gatherings, limited to small groups, reflect the same spirit that runs through the dining room: personal, considered, and deeply connected to Italian tradition.
With two locations — in Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks — and a third concept called Bastina, the restaurant also offers catering, group dining, and private events. Whether you're sitting down for a weekday lunch or marking a special occasion, the Italian cuisine at Basta is prepared with the same daily commitment to craft that earned it its place on the Gambero Rosso map.
