The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Family Legacy, Rooted in the Lowcountry

The story of Halls Chophouse begins in 2009, when the Hall family opened their first restaurant on King Street in Downtown Charleston. A decade later, in 2019, they brought the same pursuit of exceptional hospitality to Summerville, planting a second flag on Nexton Square. The force behind it all is Bill Hall — a hospitality veteran with more than forty years of experience at celebrated properties from Napa Valley to Pebble Beach — who built this steakhouse alongside his wife Jeanne after their daughter Stacey settled in the Lowcountry. The guiding principle, etched into the restaurant's identity in his memory, is simple: "Service before self."

That ethos shows up in guest after guest describing a staff that treats diners like VIPs, takes photos at the table, and goes well beyond what's expected. It's the kind of warmth that turns an occasion into a memory.

The Steaks, the Menu, the Wine

At its core, Halls Chophouse Nexton is a serious steakhouse. The beef program draws from Allen Brothers of Chicago — USDA Prime and Midwestern Angus cuts, both wet- and dry-aged for maximum tenderness and depth of flavor. The roster ranges from a classic wet-aged Filet Mignon and a 26 oz dry-aged Red's Porterhouse to a 34 oz Tomahawk Rib Eye and Japanese A5 Wagyu sold by the ounce. For those who want to explore beyond beef, the menu extends to a rack of lamb, heritage pork chops, pan-seared Nantucket diver scallops, and Chilean sea bass.

Lowcountry touches run throughout: She-Crab Soup, Oysters Rockefeller, Lowcountry Fried Green Tomatoes topped with crab, shrimp, and bacon succotash, and Shrimp & Grits anchored by stone-ground grits and tasso ham gravy. Sides lean indulgent — Lobster & Smoked Bacon Mac 'n Cheese, Pepper Jack Creamed Corn Skillet, and Parmesan-Truffle French Fries among them. Brunch rounds out the week with a bacon-wrapped filet paired with eggs and pepper jack grits.

The wine list earned Halls Chophouse Nexton a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2024 — recognition that reflects the care put into building a cellar worthy of the kitchen.

The Room and the Experience

The dress code — business casual in the dining room, more relaxed at the bar — signals the tone: elevated but not stiff. Live music, private dining rooms, and a full events program make the Nexton location as suited to a celebratory dinner as to a weekday lunch. For anyone in the greater Summerville area looking for a steakhouse that takes both the food and the hospitality seriously, this is the address.
