The story
Perry's Steakhouse & Grille has one of the more grounded origin stories in American fine dining. In 1979, Bob Perry opened a modest meat market in Houston — a neighborhood butcher shop focused on quality cuts and straightforward service. Seven years later, his son Chris Perry persuaded him to add dining tables, and the response from loyal customers made the next step obvious. In 1993, Chris opened Perry's Steakhouse & Grille, a full steakhouse concept built directly on those butcher shop foundations.
The Sugar Land location, situated at Town Square Place, carries that same lineage. What began as a single counter of choice cuts has grown into one of the country's recognized steakhouse groups — now spanning more than 20 locations across Texas and beyond — while staying, in the restaurant's own words, "true to its neighborhood butcher shop roots with top-quality selection and service."
Perry's Steakhouse positions itself around USDA Prime beef, tableside carvings, and what the group calls a Rare and Well Done® experience — a phrase that captures both cooking preferences and the standard of hospitality they aim to deliver. The Famous Pork Chop, carved tableside by the server, has become the dish most associated with the Perry's name. The bar program — Perry's Bar 79 — rounds out the evening with handcrafted cocktails, an extensive wine list, and craft beer for those who want to settle in before or after dinner.
Wine Spectator recognized the restaurant with its Award of Excellence, a reflection of the care put into the cellar and the pairing experience that complements the steakhouse menu.
Perry's Steakhouse in Sugar Land accommodates a range of occasions — from business lunches and weeknight dinners to private parties and larger catered events. Outdoor seating, private dining rooms, and delivery and takeaway options make it a practical choice as much as a celebratory one. The group also supports local communities through partnerships with food banks, arts organizations, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which speaks to the longer-term relationship Perry's has built with the areas it operates in.
For anyone seeking a serious steakhouse experience in the Sugar Land area — one with genuine history behind it — Perry's delivers on the promise its name has carried for over four decades.
