The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Unapologetically Italian, Since 1982

Angelo's Ristorante on Main Street in Stoneham has been earning its reputation the old-fashioned way — through scratch cooking, house-made pasta, and a wine program serious enough to earn Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence. What started in 1982 as a neighborhood pizzeria serving acclaimed pies, pastas, and sandwiches has grown into a full-service Italian restaurant with a private wine cellar holding over 7,000 bottles from around the world.

The Food: Seasonal, Honest, and Deeply Italian

The kitchen's philosophy is straightforward: extraordinary Italian cuisine starts with only the freshest ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons, balancing Northern Italian classics with creative contemporary dishes. Pasta is made in-house and cooked to order — from Pappardelle al Ragù d'Agnello with braised lamb and conica morels to Linguine con Aragosta Diavola, a house-made linguine loaded with lobster, Calabrian chili, and San Marzano tomato.

Appetizers show the same attention to sourcing. Fichi Arrosto — fresh black figs wrapped in prosciutto, filled with creamy Gorgonzola, and finished with a drizzle of Vino Cotto — has become a signature. The Tonno Crudo presents hand-cut sashimi-grade tuna with Sicilian olives, toasted pistachios, and estate-pressed extra virgin olive oil, served in black sesame cones. On the entrée side, a whole Mediterranean Branzino is braised in garlic, white onion, and bay leaf, while the Bistecca alla Fiorentina — a traditional four-finger-thick porterhouse — is grilled to rare-plus and finished simply with lemon and olive oil.

Locally grown vegetables, top cuts of meat, and the highest quality seafood are prepared alongside house-made mozzarella and homemade sauces. Daily specials keep regulars coming back, and the scratch kitchen earns consistent praise from guests who compare it favorably to Boston's North End.

The Wine and the Room

The private wine cellar, with its 7,000-plus bottles, is the backbone of a Mediterranean dining experience that goes well beyond the plate. Staff are known for their genuine knowledge and willingness to guide guests toward something new — a quality that complements the Wine Spectator recognition the program has carried since 2018.

The space itself — with set tables, wine racks, and cured hams hanging overhead — signals that this is a place that takes its Italian identity seriously without taking itself too seriously. Whether you're in for a weekday lunch, a leisurely dinner, or a private event, Angelo's delivers the kind of consistent, quality-driven Italian cooking that keeps people coming back for years.
