The story
Pasta Casalinga sits on the second floor of Pike Place Market, one of Seattle's most storied addresses, and its philosophy is as straightforward as its name: honest, handcrafted pasta made to feed the community. The kitchen operates on a constant search for fresh local products — sourced from nearby markets, local fishermen, and farmers — guided by the conviction that "we are what we eat." That grounded ethos earned the restaurant recognition from Gambero Rosso in 2023, a publication that rarely turns its attention to the American Pacific Northwest.
The weekly menu is the clearest expression of what Pasta Casalinga stands for. Three rotating categories — From the Ocean, From the Farm, and From the Garden — reflect the seasons and what the region offers. Caserecce arrives with miso-marinated black cod, baby bok choy, and black sesame seeds, a dish that bridges Italian technique with Northwest seafood in a way that feels entirely natural. Pappardelle carries a wild boar ragù finished with pecorino, while trottole is tossed with a spinach-almond pesto and Beecher's Flagship, a celebrated local cheese. The Lasagna Casalinga — boscaiola style, with sausage, sweet peas, mushrooms, and house-made besciamella — anchors the menu with something deeply familiar.
Beyond the dining counter, Pasta Casalinga extends its reach through a thoughtful take-home program. Fresh pasta, rotating ragù, vegetarian lasagna, and pestos are all available to go, preserving the quality of the kitchen in your own home. The restaurant also produces Rossodoro, a signature ready-to-go tomato sauce made with 100% tomatoes from Sardinia — where Mediterranean climate and mineral-rich soil yield a naturally sweet fruit — now sold in-store and at select Seattle retailers.
Certified as a DBE and ACDBE business by the Washington State Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises, Pasta Casalinga is as much a community institution as it is a place to eat well.
