The story
Siesta Key Summer House Steak and Seafood describes itself plainly and confidently: "an elegant relaxed transitional steak house with a seafood attitude." That self-description holds up. Sitting on Avenida Messina on Siesta Key, the restaurant is the latest expression of an ownership group with over 30 years of hospitality experience and seven restaurants behind them — a track record that shows in the details.
The building itself is worth noting. Designed by Kurt Lucas of JKL, it was constructed on a foundation requiring 70 MAC trucks of concrete, engineered to withstand winds exceeding 180 miles per hour. This is a place built to last, and it carries that permanence into its atmosphere.
The kitchen's commitment to beef is serious. Cuts are hand-selected from what the restaurant describes as "the most prestigious ranches" — operations that are all-natural and self-sustained. Every steak is hand-cut, seasoned, and finished on a 1,200-degree Montague Grill, a method the team credits for the exceptional flavor and tenderness that defines the experience here.
Wine Spectator recognized Siesta Key Summer House with its Award of Excellence in 2020 — a distinction that reflects the care put into the list. After extensive tasting in Napa Valley, and with input from sommeliers from Oregon, California, and Italy, the team assembled a cellar holding 436 bottles. The program is designed to complement everything on the menu, from the steaks to the fresh seafood.
Hand-crafted cocktails lean into local character, incorporating Siesta Key Salt and Siesta Key Rum alongside fresh fruits and juices — the result of over 20 years of mixology experience on the team. And then there is the fish tank: a 1,000-gallon, 10,000-pound, 14-foot-long centerpiece designed exclusively for the restaurant by Sea Clear Aquariums, requiring more than 1,100 man-hours to build. It is, as the restaurant says, a must-see.
Beyond dinner, the restaurant serves American brunch every Sunday from 10am to 2pm, rounding out a program that covers the full range of the day without losing focus.
The operating philosophy here is straightforward: put people first. For a restaurant on one of Florida's most visited barrier islands, that grounding keeps the experience honest.
