The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Southern Italian Kitchen Rooted in Two Families

At La Dolce Vita on Stickney Point Road, the food traces a clear line back to two Italian regions and two family histories. Chef Mauro grew up in Naples, where he learned the fundamentals of southern Italian cooking — dishes like Polipetti alla Luciana and Paccheri ai frutti di mare — before moving to Milan to absorb the northern tradition: risotto, porcini, grilled polenta. His wife Tina comes from a small town near Enna in Sicily, where her grandmother and mother passed down the art of Italian pastry-making, from Millefoglie to Cannoli cake. That combined geography — Naples, Milan, Sicily — is what shapes the menu at La Dolce Vita today.

The restaurant earned recognition from Gambero Rosso, one of the world's most authoritative food guides, confirming its standing as one of the finest Italian dining destinations in Florida. The award reflects a consistent commitment to preserving the traditions of authentic Italian cuisine while serving them in a relaxed Sarasota setting.

What's on the Plate

The menu reads like a tour of the Italian peninsula. Handmade pasta is the heart of the kitchen: Scialatielli gamberi e asparagi — a signature pasta made with semolina, eggs, milk, parmigiano, and herbs, tossed with shrimp and asparagus — sits alongside Paccheri ai frutti di mare with mussels, clams, octopus, and shrimp in a tomato-wine sauce. For those who prefer the land, Saltimbocca di vitello alla Romana layers veal, prosciutto, sage, and provolone, while Cotoletta alla Bolognese comes with oven-roasted potatoes. The Sicilian thread runs through Maccheroni alla Catanese — pasta alla Norma with eggplant and ricotta — and desserts that echo Tina's family recipes.

The wine list is a serious Italian survey, ranging from Veneto Amarone and Piedmontese Barolo to Sicilian Nero d'Avola and Sardinian Vermentino di Gallura, with plenty available by the glass.

Beyond the Dining Room

La Dolce Vita also offers a full catering service for private events and parties, with trays scaled for groups of six to sixteen and a dessert selection that includes Crostata di Fichi, Caprese Cake, and Sicilian Cannoli. Custom requests are available for larger or differently configured events.

For anyone seeking genuine Italian cuisine in Sarasota — grounded in regional tradition and recognized by one of Italy's most respected food authorities — La Dolce Vita makes a straightforward, well-earned case for itself.
