The story
On the corner of Darlington and San Vicente in Brentwood, Toscana has been serving Northern Italian food for 36 years. Co-founders Kathie and Mike Gordon built something that has outlasted trends and fads — a place they describe simply as home. "Home is rooted in Italian traditions, authenticity, and a deep respect for those who came before us," they write. That philosophy shows in the room, in the welcome, and in the food that comes out of the kitchen daily.
The restaurant is part of the Toscana Restaurant Group, with sister locations across Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Santa Ynez, and Los Olivos — but this original address on San Vicente remains the anchor.
Chef Miguel leads the kitchen, and the cooking stays true to Tuscan character: wood-fired heat, quality ingredients, and dishes that feel purposeful rather than showy. Special occasions have featured a 30oz Prime Tomahawk fired over an open flame, Wagyu tartare, black truffle pici, and Crema Catalana — a menu that signals confidence without excess.
The wine program earned Toscana a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects both the depth of the list and the care taken in pairing Italian cuisine with bottles worth drinking. The list is available to browse separately and is well suited to the food.
Toscana handles private events and catering with the same kitchen behind it — curated menus for receptions, passed bites, and food stations are available, along with a full catering brochure. Family meal takeout is also on offer for those who want the Tuscan trattoria experience at home.
The room has outdoor seating, a private space for parties, and the kind of atmosphere that makes it equally right for a weekday lunch and a long Saturday dinner. It is a cashless establishment.
