San Francisco Wine Society, on Merchant Street in the heart of San Francisco, is built around a straightforward conviction: wine is about making memories and being present. To protect that experience, the space is deliberately intimate — no televisions, no WiFi — just the wine, the conversation, and the company.

That philosophy has earned the bar a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence (2023), one of the guide's most respected recognitions for depth and quality of wine programming.

The Team

The wine bar is led by Danielle Kuzinich, CS, proprietor, alongside Emory Etheridge, CS, sommelier. Both hold the Certified Sommelier credential, and their combined expertise shapes a list that moves fluidly between the canonical and the unexpected.

What's on the List

The menu spans wines by the glass, curated flights, a full bottle list, and a dedicated section for Madeira, Ports, and other sweet wines — a category rarely given this kind of attention in San Francisco. Food small plates round out the offering, making the wine bar equally suited to a focused tasting or a relaxed evening meal.

Beyond the Glass

San Francisco Wine Society also hosts private events and offers catering, with bocce on site for a more playful visit. Whether the occasion calls for a quiet weeknight pour or a private gathering, the space accommodates both without losing its considered, unhurried character.
