The story
Saison Wine Bar opened its flagship San Francisco location in the summer of 2024, the creation of Mark Bright — co-founder of Saison Hospitality and winemaker behind Saison Winery. The address on Townsend Street in SoMa places it within the broader Saison Hospitality universe, which includes two Michelin-starred Saison and Michelin-starred Angler. The wine bar earned a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2025, a recognition that reflects the seriousness and depth of what's in the glass here.
The collection is curated by Bright and Wine Director Paul Carayas, and it leans heavily into France while pulling in exceptional producers from around the world and from Northern California neighbors. Bottles are available by the half glass, glass, flight, or bottle, with deep verticals and highly allocated labels that rarely appear by the glass elsewhere. Benchmark names sit alongside niche discoveries, making the list equally rewarding for collectors and curious newcomers.
The wine bar occupies a richly textured room done in classic "Saison blue," with banquettes, booths, and bar seating. The French wine bar fare is designed for grazing and lingering — Croque Monsieurs, Pâté en Croûte, Steak Tartare, a Signature Caviar Service, and a robust charcuterie and cheese program. The format works for a solo stop during happy hour or a longer table with a group.
Just two doors down, The Cellar is a private members club offering climate-controlled personal wine storage, exclusive winemaker tastings, bi-annual cellar consultations, and priority access to events at Saison and Angler. Regular winemaker events take place across both spaces.
For those who want a closer relationship with the cellar, the Wine Bar Club delivers two bottles monthly — one white, one red — selected by Bright, along with a 15% discount on glasses and bottles and invitations to member-only tastings and events.
