The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Where Peru Meets the Bay

At Pier 1½ on San Francisco's Embarcadero, La Mar Cebicheria Peruana occupies one of the city's most striking waterfront positions — panoramic views of the Bay Bridge and Treasure Island framing every meal. The setting is dramatic without trying too hard, and the food matches it with equal confidence.

La Mar is part of the Acurio International family, the group behind some of the most respected Peruvian restaurants in the world. That lineage matters: it means a kitchen that treats Peruvian cuisine not as a novelty but as a living, layered tradition shaped by Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, and Andean influences over centuries.

The Cebiche Bar and the Charcoal Oven

Two stations define the kitchen's identity. The trademark cebiche bar is the heart of the operation — the place where Peru's most iconic dish is prepared with precision and given the attention it deserves. Alongside it, a charcoal-fired oven handles the cooking that calls for heat and depth. Together, they reflect the full range of what serious Peruvian cooking can do.

Every June, La Mar leans further into its cebiche identity with a month-long celebration tied to Peru's national Cebiche Day on June 28. The annual campaign connects the San Francisco location with La Mar restaurants in other cities through a curated selection of cebiches inspired by Peru's distinct regions, products, and cultural histories — a reminder that cebiche is not one dish but many.

A Room That Works for Any Occasion

Beyond the dining room, La Mar offers private event spaces that scale from intimate gatherings to weddings and corporate events for up to 500 guests — all with the same waterfront backdrop. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, earned for the strength of its wine program, signals that the beverage list is as carefully considered as the food.

The restaurant is a short walk from the Embarcadero BART station, or reachable by the F train — a straightforward arrival for what turns out to be anything but an ordinary meal.
