The story
VENETO began the way the best things often do — unexpectedly. A chance meeting in 2001 between Amy and Marco, a Verona-born Italian with a lifelong passion for the food and wine of his home region, set in motion years of long-distance love, marriage, family, and many trips to their second home, Italy. When the two settled in Salt Lake City, they channeled all of it into a restaurant: VENETO opened in 2016 with a clear mission to bring the history, culture, and traditions of Northern Italy to the table.
Marco carries Verona with him into every aspect of the kitchen, drawing on classical Italian cuisine and the seasonal rhythms of the Veneto region — a stretch of northeastern Italy that runs from the Dolomites down to the Adriatic, encompassing the provinces of Venice, Verona, Treviso, Padua, and beyond. Amy, a Salt Lake City native with a background in marketing and a deep love of art and design, shaped the space itself: one-of-a-kind antique European furniture fills the dining room, including a centuries-old Italian sofa, and every piece was chosen for both its beauty and the story it carries. Being at VENETO, as they describe it, is like being a guest in their home.
The Italian cuisine at VENETO honors year-round classical favorites alongside seasonal specialties, all sourced from the finest local purveyors. The spring tasting menu gives a clear sense of the kitchen's sensibility: a seven-course progression that leans heavily on the Veneto pantry — soft white polenta with lagoon shrimp, creamy baccalà with crispy polenta layers, polenta gnocchi with Parmigiano Reggiano and mushroom sauce, angel hair polenta pasta with piennolo tomato and langostine, and polenta fritters with vanilla cream to close. A four-course version is also available, and both can be paired with wines selected to complement each course.
The wine program is as serious as the food. VENETO claims the largest selection of Italian wines and vintages in Utah, with bottles ranging from approachable entry points to rare, high-value expressions of Brunello di Montalcino, Barolo, and Amarone della Valpolicella. The list is organized by structure, intensity, and acidity to help guests at any level of knowledge navigate with confidence. Every producer is hand-selected and personally known to the team.
Wine Spectator has recognized VENETO's wine list with its Best of Award of Excellence every year since 2018 — a distinction that reflects both the breadth and the depth of what Marco and his team have assembled. For a restaurant in Utah to hold that recognition consistently speaks to a commitment that goes well beyond the expected.
Private dining, special events, and a wine club round out the VENETO experience for those who want to go deeper. The restaurant sits just off the 900 South exit of I-15, one block from Liberty Park — easy to reach, and worth the trip.
