Food Like It Should Be

Situated on Commerce Street in Saint Francisville, Louisiana, The Saint Restaurant has built a remarkable reputation in a remarkably short time. Part of the Louisiana Hospitality Group and housed within The St. Francisville Inn, the restaurant is open to the public and draws guests from well beyond the surrounding parish.

Within its first year, The Saint landed among metropolitan Baton Rouge's top restaurants. OpenTable diners voted it one of the top restaurants in Baton Rouge in 2021, then elevated it to their list of the top 100 restaurants in America — a ranking it earned again in 2023, outpacing nearly every established name in New Orleans. By 2025, it was recognized as one of the top three brunch destinations in Louisiana, alongside Brennan's and La Petite. Michelin followed with a Recommended designation, DiRōNA named it a Distinguished Restaurant of North America, and Wine Spectator granted its Award of Excellence — the latter a particular mark of distinction for a restaurant this far outside a major metropolitan center.

The Kitchen Behind the Recognition

Chef Michael Dardenne has been at the stove since the beginning — literally. In the early days, he ran breakfast, lunch, and dinner service alone. Today he leads a team of eight, and together they push the boundaries of American and European cuisine each month, experimenting with spice and ingredient combinations that continue to surprise guests. Country Roads Magazine and the broader regional press have taken notice. The awards, as the restaurant puts it simply, keep growing.

Rooms That Set the Mood

The dining experience at The Saint unfolds across three distinct spaces. The main dining room is formal and unhurried — hand-painted walls with hidden details, a grand chandelier, and a fireplace. The Sun Room traces its origins to an 1880 open porch; now enclosed with large sliding glass doors, it opens to the sounds of a courtyard fountain when weather allows. The Breakfast Room, lined with English wallpaper and elegant draperies, is among the most requested spaces in the house.

Breakfast is served daily without a reservation. Lunch runs Wednesday through Saturday, Sunday brunch fills the midday hours, and dinner — where reservations are strongly recommended — is served every evening. For a small Louisiana town, it is an ambitious and thoroughly earned table.
