The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Wisconsin Supper Club With Staying Power

Since 1999, Johnny Manhattan's has been the kind of place people drive out of their way for — from Milwaukee, from Chicago, from the nearby fairways of Erin Hills. The building on Hubertus Road dates to 1865, with an addition from 1906, and the restaurant has occupied it for over 25 years, expanding its dining rooms in 2015 to seat nearly 200 guests. That longevity says something in a competitive restaurant market, and so does the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence the wine program earned — a recognition that reflects genuine depth behind the bar.

Steaks, Italian Specialties, and Everything Between

The menu at this Italian steakhouse is deliberately broad without being unfocused. The kitchen works exclusively with USDA Prime beef — New York Strip, Ribeye, Filet Mignon — and takes the grade seriously enough to decline well-done orders, citing the quality loss that extreme heat causes in heavily marbled Prime cuts. Executive Chef Carlos Guerra's name appears on the menu alongside that policy, a small but telling detail about kitchen accountability.

Italian cooking runs just as deep. The Spiedini — hand-rolled stuffed tenderloin over linguine with marinara, made daily while supplies last — is the kind of dish that earns repeat visits. The Ragu ala Bolognese slow-simmers ground prime rib and pork for hours before meeting pappardelle and ricotta. On Tuesdays through Thursdays, an "Italiano Rustico" menu adds farmhouse-style dishes like Ragu alla Fattoria with braised pork shoulder and beef short rib, and a four-cheese Quattro Formaggi Manicotti finished with roasted tomato sauce. Fridays and Saturdays bring fresh fish — trout, halibut, sea bass, grouper, corvina — and the handcrafted pizzas are available any night, made from scratch on a 16-inch crust.

The Room and the Crowd

The space has distinct dining rooms, each with its own feel, an oak wood bar, a fireplace, and a patio for warmer months. Jeans are as welcome as dress shirts. The crowd on any given evening might include motorcyclists off Hogsback Road, golfers finishing a round, families celebrating a birthday, or couples looking for a quieter alternative to the city. Private rooms accommodate group events and business dinners, with General Manager Debra handling event bookings directly.

The restaurant describes its philosophy plainly: quality food, exceptional service, fair prices — no gimmicks, no coupons. After more than two decades in Hubertus, that straightforwardness has clearly been enough.
