The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The Setting

J&G Steakhouse occupies a prime position within The Phoenician resort, set against the dramatic backdrop of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale. The space offers more than one way to experience it: settle into the lounge for craft cocktails, take a table on the scenic sunset patio to dine under the Arizona sky, or reserve one of the stylish private dining rooms for a special event. It is a steakhouse built for the full evening.

The Chef Behind the Kitchen

The story of J&G begins with Executive Chef Jacques Qualin, who opened the restaurant in 2009 after a career that reads like a tour through the upper reaches of French and French-American fine dining. A native of the Franche-Comté region of France, Qualin started his kitchen apprenticeship at 16, eventually moving to Paris to train under Michelin-rated chef Michel de Matteis. From there he moved to La Tour D'Argent and then to Restaurant Le Taillevent — described by The New York Times as "the best in Paris, if not all of France" — where he worked under celebrated chef Claude DeLigne.

His transatlantic move brought him first to Daniel Boulud at New York's Le Cirque, and then to Jean-Georges Vongerichten's flagship Jean Georges Restaurant, an AAA Five Diamond and Mobil Five Star property, where Qualin served as First Sous-chef. After helming his own fine-dining restaurant in upstate New York, he accepted the challenge of opening J&G Steakhouse in the Sonoran Desert.

What's on the Plate

This is a steakhouse grounded in precision and range. Qualin's menu pairs award-winning premium meats and a global selection of seafood with the finest local ingredients, accented by bold Asian and American flavors — a signature combination that reflects both his classical French training and his appetite for the wider culinary world. The restaurant offers a full dinner menu alongside a tasting menu, a dedicated dessert selection, and a cocktail and spirits list designed to complement the food.

Recognition

Wine Spectator has recognized J&G Steakhouse with its Best of Award of Excellence, a distinction that speaks to the depth and curation of the wine program — a fitting complement to a steakhouse operating at this level. For anyone seeking a serious steakhouse experience in the Phoenix area, J&G at The Phoenician sets a clear standard.
