Butcher & Singer

A glamorous 1940s Hollywood-inspired steakhouse in Philadelphia, with prime cuts, a raw bar, and a Wine Spectator-awarded wine list.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Where Old Hollywood Meets Walnut Street

Butcher & Singer brings the glamour of 1940s Hollywood to Philadelphia's Walnut Street. The room channels a bygone era of elegance and sophistication — warm, personalized service included — making it one of the city's most distinctive steakhouse experiences. Part of the Starr Restaurants group, the dining room operates with the kind of polish that earns lasting loyalty.

The Food: Steaks, Chops, and a Serious Raw Bar

The menu is built around perfectly charred steaks and chops, ranging from an 8 oz. Filet Mignon to a 32 oz. Porterhouse for two. Cuts can be elevated with an Oscar finish — jumbo lump crab, asparagus, and béarnaise — or accompanied by classic sauces like au poivre or sauce diane. Beyond the steakhouse staples, the kitchen delivers Twin Lobster Tails with drawn butter, Chilean Sea Bass with yuzu butter, and a Shrimp & Crab Louie that holds its own as a signature. The raw bar — oysters, lobster cocktail, crab cocktail, shrimp — sets the tone from the first course.

Cocktails and a Wine List Worth the Award

The bar program leans into the restaurant's retro spirit with a Butcher Old Fashioned (Knob Creek rye, honey rose syrup, Angostura and orange bitters) and a range of Manhattans anchored by the house Butcher & Singer Select, built on Booker's Bourbon and Amaro Nonino. The wine list is extensive enough to have earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence — a recognition that reflects genuine depth and curation across Old and New World selections, by the glass and bottle alike.

Groups and Private Dining

Butcher & Singer accommodates gatherings of many sizes: non-private seating for up to 30 guests, a semi-private Chef's Table for up to 12, and the full Main Dining Room available for private luncheons of up to 120. For anyone seeking a Philadelphia steakhouse that can handle a corporate dinner or a milestone celebration with equal ease, the infrastructure is there.
