The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Steakhouse Built on Commitment to the Craft

801 Chophouse traces its roots to 1993, when the family-owned 801 Restaurant Group opened its first location at 801 Grand Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa. The Omaha outpost on Farnam Street carries that same founding conviction: that the great American steakhouse of the 1920s — lively, detail-obsessed, genuinely hospitable — deserved to be brought back rather than imitated.

The premise is straightforward and uncompromising. Every cut served is USDA Prime or better, all day, every day. Through exclusive sourcing partnerships, the kitchen runs an in-house meat program built around single-breed, hand-selected beef from the top one percent of US production. Bone saws and dry-age coolers on site mean the team controls the aging process directly, using proprietary methods to coax the most flavor and tenderness from each piece.

Prime Beef, Wagyu, and a Daily Fresh Sheet

The menu anchors on classic steakhouse cuts — filet mignon, richly marbled ribeye — alongside daily A5 Wagyu sourced from acclaimed Japanese prefectures as well as select domestic producers. The word Wagyu translates to "Japanese cattle," and 801 Chophouse takes the distinction seriously: the A5 grade represents the highest possible rating for yield, marbling, firmness, texture, and coloring.

Beyond beef, a daily Fresh Sheet brings in fresh fish, oysters, live Maine lobsters, and seasonal produce, giving the kitchen room to shift with the seasons. An in-house pastry chef handles desserts, and the wine program has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects the care put into pairing American fine dining with a seriously curated cellar.

The GreenCoat Standard

Service at 801 Chophouse is organized around what the team calls GreenCoat Hospitality. Staff are trained not to follow a script but to read each table's particular dynamic and guide guests accordingly — suggesting dishes, recommending pairings, adjusting the pace. The GreenCoat itself is a symbol of that commitment, worn by team members who are expected to simply say yes wherever possible.

The atmosphere draws deliberately on 1920s steakhouse energy: vibrant, warm, attentive to detail. Private dining rooms make the Omaha location well suited to special occasions and corporate events, with options that extend to private chef experiences and wine pairing dinners.
