The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Michelin Star on the Oceanside Waterfront

Valle sits directly on the coast at 222 N. Pacific Street, with views of the Oceanside Pier framing every meal. Helmed by Executive Chef Roberto Alcocer, it earned a MICHELIN Star for tasting menus that draw equally from California's coastal larder and the culinary traditions of Baja — a pairing that feels entirely natural given the geography. The restaurant's wine program, recognized with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, leans heavily into Northern Mexican producers, including bottles from Chef Roberto's own winery.

The kitchen's defining technique is charcoal oven cooking and wood-fire, which runs as a thread through the seasonal menu. Ingredients come from local farms, Oceanside Harbor fishermen, and regional purveyors — the sourcing is specific enough that dishes name their origins: Ensenada Azero steelhead trout, Oceanside Harbor Pelican rock cod, Santa Barbara rock crab.

The Tasting Menus

The main tasting menu moves through a sequence that reflects Chef Alcocer's contemporary Mexican cuisine with precision and some genuine wit. Botanas open the meal — a "not oyster," a fish taco, a huitlacoche infladita — before the kitchen moves into courses like Tejuino (corn chowder ice cream with white fish roe), Cebolla y Caviar (charred onion with Imperia Royal Ossetra caviar and vegetable demi-glace), and Trucha Tom Kha (steelhead trout with local kiwi and cold tom kha). A Mole Blanco of local spring vegetables, almonds, pine nuts, and sesame sits alongside Cangrejo — Santa Barbara rock crab minilla in panipurri with chilpachole. The progression closes with desserts including Mangoneada and Legoland, a chocolate flan with strawberry atole and long pepper sorbet.

A shorter Menú Breve is available during select early and late hours, and the Valle Bar — walk-up seating only — offers a more casual entry point with handcrafted cocktails, Baja beer and wine, and a bar menu that includes birria, a wagyu smash burger, and half-dozen Baja oysters.

Chef's Table and El Sillón

For a closer look at the kitchen, Chef Roberto hosts his Chef's Table experience inside Valle's kitchen itself, Tuesday through Saturday at 6:30 pm — a curated tasting built around seasonal offerings with wine and conversation. Separately, El Sillón is an à la carte bar-side counter where guests sit side by side and order from a menu exclusively curated by Chef Alcocer, drawing from the main dining room's seasonal rotation.

Valle is authentic and approachable while delivering the kind of focused, ingredient-driven contemporary Mexican cuisine that has made it a standout in the greater San Diego dining scene.
