The story
Morton's The Steakhouse traces its origins to an unlikely moment: co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch, both working at the Playboy Club in Montreal, were brought together by a single hamburger that Arnie declared the best he'd ever tasted. That encounter led to what they called the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — and eventually to the first Morton's, which opened on State Street in Chicago in 1978. Today the brand spans more than 65 locations worldwide, with the King of Prussia location on W. Dekalb Pike carrying forward the same founding principles: quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality.
At its core, Morton's is a steakhouse built around USDA prime-aged beef — the top 2% of beef available in the United States. The same suppliers have been used since day one, and if a cut doesn't meet Morton's standards, it doesn't make it to the plate. Alongside the steaks, the kitchen offers fresh seafood that holds its own: Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, and Red King Crab Legs. Seasonal additions to the menu have included Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail — dishes that reflect a kitchen willing to move beyond the classics without abandoning them.
The wine program at this steakhouse is serious enough to have earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, with a list of more than 300 wines spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. An on-site Wine Locker program is available for regulars, and General Managers and Sommeliers are on hand to guide pairings. Morton's has also introduced its own private label, "State & Rush," honoring the restaurant's Chicago roots with a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir sourced from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi, California.
Beyond the dining room, Bar 12-21 offers hand-crafted cocktails and chef-selected bites in a livelier setting. Private dining rooms accommodate business functions, special events, and Morton's Prime Events — seasonal wine dinners and charity evenings that have included celebrity server nights benefiting athletes' foundations. Each guest, whether at the bar or in a private room, is treated, as the restaurant puts it, like a VIP.
