The Noortwyck

West Village restaurant from Eleven Madison Park alumni Chef Andy Quinn & Sommelier Cedric Nicaise, earning Wine Spectator recognition for its American menu.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A West Village Address with Deep Roots

The name says something about the place. Noortwyck is Dutch for "North District," and 289 Bleecker Street sits on what was once the northern tract of New Amsterdam — the original Dutch settlement that would become New York City. That sense of history runs quietly through everything here, from the corner location at Bleecker and 7th Avenue to the timeless approach to new American cooking.

The Partnership Behind the Restaurant

The Noortwyck is the project of Chef Andrew Quinn and Sommelier Cedric Nicaise, two partners who first crossed paths at Eleven Madison Park. That pedigree shapes the restaurant's sensibility: serious technique and genuine hospitality without the stiffness that can accompany fine dining. Quinn leads the kitchen while Nicaise brings his expertise to a wine list the restaurant describes as "vast and fun" — a combination that earned The Noortwyck a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2023, a recognition that speaks directly to the depth and thoughtfulness of the cellar.

The broader leadership team includes General Manager and Wine Director Jodi Mixon, Managing Partner for Operations Amédée Timmer, Executive Sous Chef Adam Feuer, and Sous Chef Devon Wade.

The Food and the Room

The menu is seasonal, à la carte, and rooted in New York — Quinn draws on local producers and purveyors, and the kitchen reserves the right to change dishes daily based on what's available. Brunch runs on weekends, dinner runs every night of the week, and a Corner Combo — the restaurant's burger served with accompaniments — is offered in the bar area on weekday evenings until sold out, a casual counterpoint to the more composed dinner service.

The interior was designed by bonetti / kozeski architecture, with custom plateware from Connor McGinn Studios and wooden service pieces by C-Los Carpentry. The result is a room that feels considered without being precious. No dress code, no formalities — the restaurant's own words are simply "come as you are."

For groups, the space accommodates up to seven at a single table, and full restaurant buyouts can seat 45 or host up to 100 for a standing reception. The American cooking here is the kind that rewards a long evening, whether you're at a table or settled in at the bar.
