The Grill

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Classic, Reinvented

The Grill occupies a singular place in New York City dining: the crown jewel of the Seagram Building on East 52nd Street, and the celebrated successor to the legendary Four Seasons restaurant. The dining rooms themselves carry landmark status — the only landmarked dining rooms in the United States — which sets the stage before a single dish arrives.

Midcentury Splendor, American Precision

Step inside and the room does the talking. The aesthetic is midcentury Manhattan at its most assured: polished, proportioned, and entirely self-confident. Debonair service captains work the floor with practiced ease, and the wine and spirits collection — recognized with Wine Spectator's Grand Award — is, by any measure, without equal in the city.

The menu draws from the American chophouse tradition, executed with the kind of precision that earns a restaurant consistent placement on the New York Times list of the 100 Best Restaurants in New York City. The signature Prime Rib, carved tableside on a gleaming cart, is the dish the room is built around — and reason enough to make a reservation.

The Room, the Rules, the Experience

The Grill takes its own atmosphere seriously. Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion — no shorts, open-toed shoes, tank tops, athletic wear, or baseball caps. It is a deliberate choice that reinforces what the restaurant is: a place where occasion still means something.

Lunch runs Monday through Friday, dinner Monday through Saturday. Private dining is available for seated groups up to 37 across two rooms, and the adjacent Pool event space expands capacity considerably for larger gatherings. For those who want to bring their own bottles, the team accommodates with a corkage policy — a small detail that speaks to the depth of hospitality here.

The Grill is not trying to be everything. It is the American restaurant — unhurried, impeccably staffed, and rooted in a tradition worth preserving.
