The Clocktower

Contemporary American-British cuisine, a 700-bottle wine list, and 24k gold-leaf bar inside the New York EDITION hotel on Madison Avenue.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Taste of Contemporary London in Midtown Manhattan

Inside the New York EDITION hotel at 5 Madison Avenue, The Clocktower brings a distinct U.K. sensibility to the edge of Madison Square Park. The space is divided into three intimate dining rooms, a billiards room, and a bar finished in 24k gold leaf — a setting that balances energy with refinement without tipping into spectacle.

The cooking is best described as modern American cuisine filtered through a British lens. The menu is deliberately straightforward — simple, refined dishes that let quality ingredients carry the weight — yet the British references run throughout, from a proper English Breakfast with baked beans and fried bread to ale-battered Fish & Chips served with triple-cooked chips and seaweed tartar sauce. On the more ambitious end of the dinner menu, the Beef Wellington for Two arrives with whipped potatoes, seasonal roasted vegetables, and sauce bordelaise, while the dry-aged duck breast pairs with parsnip and fennel pollen.

The Bar and the Wine Program

The bar is a destination in its own right. Snacks like beer-battered cod with seaweed tartar sauce and dry-aged beef sliders keep things grounded, while cocktails such as the British Mary — gin, spiced tomato, malt vinegar, black salt — lean into the restaurant's Anglo-American identity. The wine program earned The Clocktower a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects the depth of a 700-bottle list spanning both Old and New World producers, also available by the glass in a well-chosen selection.

From Breakfast Through Dinner

One of The Clocktower's more unusual strengths is its range across the day. Breakfast brings La Colombe coffee alongside pastries, Scotch eggs, and a full English. Brunch stretches into raw bar territory — East Coast oysters with cucumber yuzu mignonette, a shellfish platter, razor clams with tiger's milk — before moving into the full dinner menu. Desserts hold to the British thread: warm Sticky Toffee Pudding with bird's custard ice cream, Raspberry Trifle with dark chocolate, and a Baked Alaska finished with calvados.

For groups, the multi-room layout and broad menu make The Clocktower a practical as well as pleasurable choice in Midtown — American hospitality with a quietly confident British accent.
