Founded by Chef Giuseppe Bruno, whose roots trace back to Salerno in Southern Italy, the restaurant carries forward a family tradition that began long before the first table was set. After 33 years on Second Avenue, Sistina relocated to a handsome townhouse on East 81st Street, between Madison and Fifth Avenue — a setting that suits the restaurant's quiet confidence.

Gambero Rosso, the authoritative Italian food and wine guide, awarded Sistina its top 3-fork distinction, a recognition reserved for Italian restaurants abroad that demonstrate genuine culinary integrity. It is a mark that resonates here: Sistina does not perform Italianness, it practices it.

The Chef Behind the Kitchen

Giuseppe Bruno occupies an uncommon position — Owner, Executive Chef, and Sommelier under one roof. He goes to the market daily, selecting fish, meat, and vegetables from local farmers, then applying what he calls "the wisdom of his Salerno ancestors": fresh comfort food, impeccably prepared. There is no gap between concept and execution because the same person drives both.

His approach is rooted in restraint and quality. The menu moves with the market, and the wine list reflects the same seriousness — an extensive cellar spanning prestige Champagnes and beyond, curated by a chef who also happens to hold a sommelier's palate.
