The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Cobblestone Corner in Tribeca, Elevated

Tucked onto a classic Tribeca cobblestone corner at 412 Greenwich Street, l'abeille is a 48-seat French restaurant with Japanese influence that feels as intimate as it does refined. The name itself — French for "the bee" — hints at the quiet precision and natural artistry that defines every aspect of the experience. Warm, sophisticated, and genuinely welcoming, l'abeille has earned its place among New York City's most distinctive dining destinations.

The Vision of Chef Mitsunobu Nagae

L'abeille is the brainchild of Chef Mitsunobu Nagae, a veteran Michelin-starred chef whose journey began at the age of 15, cooking lunch and dinner for his sisters in a single-parent household in Japan. That early sense of purpose never left him. In 2007, he moved to Lyon, France to attend the prestigious Tsuji Culinary Institute, where he graduated with the school's highest honor: Student of the Year.

Inspired by a documentary on Joël Robuchon — whose philosophy would shape his entire career — Chef Nagae went on to work at some of the world's most celebrated kitchens. His résumé includes three-Michelin-starred restaurants Régis et Jacques Marcon and Ledoyen in France, the legendary Château Restaurant Joël Robuchon in Tokyo, as well as L'Osier (Tokyo), e.t.c. (Paris), and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in New York. He also serves as Corporate Executive Chef for Kuma Hospitality Group.

Seasonal French Cuisine, Rooted in Craft

At l'abeille, the menu is a living document. The restaurant centers on a seasonal Chef's Tasting Menu — a curated journey through French cuisine inflected with Japanese precision and restraint — alongside a rotating selection of à la carte dishes that reflect what Chef Nagae discovers at the farmer's market. Each ingredient is considered; each plate, an exercise in respecting the traditions of French cuisine while quietly reimagining them.

The experience extends beyond the plate. L'abeille's wine and cocktail program has been recognized with the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence (2023), underscoring a commitment to pairing that matches the kitchen's ambition.

An Intimate Stage for Memorable Occasions

With just 48 seats, every visit to l'abeille feels personal. The restaurant also hosts private events, making it an exceptional setting for celebrations that call for something truly special. Whether a weeknight discovery or a landmark evening, l'abeille delivers the rare combination of elegance and warmth that keeps guests returning to its beloved Tribeca corner.
