The story
Founded in 2015 on West 44th Street by Nelson Braff, Eytan Sugarman, Dave Barrett, and Anthony Scaramucci, Hunt & Fish Club is Midtown Manhattan's answer to the great American steakhouse — one that honors the rituals of the past while feeling very much alive in the present. The room itself sets the tone immediately: over 50,000 lbs of marble, leather upholstery, curated art, and breathtaking chandeliers, all conceived by renowned contemporary artist Roy Nachum alongside design and architecture firm Studio Iyor. The intention was to recreate the glory of 1960s New York, and the result is a space that makes guests want to slow down, order another round, and stay.
At its core, Hunt & Fish Club is an American steakhouse — and a serious one. The dinner menu features a Bone-In New York Strip (16oz), a 24oz Bone-In Ribeye, a 42oz Porterhouse for Two, and Filet Mignon in two cuts, each served with the house-made A2 sauce and a choice of accompaniments including Truffle Béarnaise, Peppercorn Brandy, or Chimichurri. Steak additions like Truffle Crab Oscar and Lobster Tail speak to the kitchen's appetite for generosity.
But the menu reaches well beyond beef. The Owner's Recipe Seafood Salad — lobster, crab, jumbo shrimp, scallops, and calamari — is a signature starter, and the build-your-own seafood tower anchors the raw bar. Pastas like Gnocchi with Lobster & Caviar and Wild Mushroom Pappardelle with black truffle butter hold their own alongside the mains, and house-made desserts, including a tableside sundae cart, close things out with flair.
The wine program earned Hunt & Fish Club the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, reflecting a list that moves from Burgundy and Champagne through California Cabernet and Italian Sangiovese with real range and intention.
Hunt & Fish Club operates on more than one register. The HFC Underground series brings Broadway performers into the dining room for intimate evening shows — past and upcoming events have featured veterans of Les Misérables, A Bronx Tale, and This Is Us, performing American Songbook standards and original programs over à la carte dining. It's a format that makes the restaurant genuinely different from its peers.
For private gatherings, three distinct spaces offer flexibility: the Green Room, an oasis-themed room with a soaring arched skylight and living green wall; the Blue Room, wrapped in contemporary Roman Reliefs beneath a mirrored ceiling with full A/V capabilities; and the White Room, which accommodates up to 130 seated or 250 for a reception.
The Knife Club — a program that presents the restaurant's most loyal guests with a custom-engraved steak knife — captures the spirit of the place well: personal, considered, and rooted in the pleasure of dining well with people you want around the table.
