The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Wall Street Institution Since 1972

In 1972, Harry found the perfect space for his own venture in the basement of the historic India House building at 1 Hanover Square — and the rest, as they say, is Financial District history. Founded alongside his wife Adrienne, Harry's grew into a trusted gathering place for the people who work in and around Wall Street: midday business meals, after-work drinks, and everything in between. More than fifty years on, it remains a family-owned establishment, still drawing on the same values that defined it from the start.

The Steaks, the Martini, the Wellington

Harry's is an American steakhouse at its core, and the kitchen takes that identity seriously. The beef is dry-aged in-house for 28 days, sourced from a purveyor the restaurant has trusted since 1974 — a relationship nearly as old as Harry's itself. The result is the kind of steak that doesn't need much explaining.

The signature Beef Wellington is the dish most closely tied to the restaurant's identity. Carved tableside from a trolley, it arrives wrapped in flaky, buttery puff pastry with baby carrots and truffle jus — a preparation that has been on the menu since opening day and remains, as the restaurant puts it, "an enduring staple not to be missed." Availability is limited, which only adds to its appeal.

Then there's the martini. Harry's has been perfecting it since 1972, and it holds a place on the menu with the same seriousness as the steaks.

A Wine List Worth the Recognition

The wine program at Harry's is a genuine point of pride. The restaurant maintains one of the finest vintage wine collections in the country, with a cellar deep enough that sommeliers curate a rotating Carte du Jour — a focused selection updated regularly — while the full Reserve List is always available for those who want to explore further. That commitment to the cellar earned Harry's a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects both the breadth of the collection and the care with which it is managed.

The Room and the Atmosphere

The flagship location in Lower Manhattan carries the atmosphere of its surroundings: a historic building, a neighborhood that has seen centuries of commerce, and a dining room that has hosted generations of regulars. It's a place equally suited to a serious business lunch and a long, relaxed dinner. The menu spans lunch, brunch, and dinner, and private rooms are available for events that call for something more exclusive.

Harry's is the kind of American steakhouse that doesn't need to reinvent itself — it simply keeps doing what it does well, year after year.
