The story
Drift Restaurant & Bar occupies a landmark building in Weehawken's Lincoln Harbor district, directly on the Hudson waterfront with the Manhattan skyline as a constant backdrop. The mid-century modern interior draws its aesthetic inspiration from Henry Hudson's Dutch vessel — a quietly dramatic setting that earns its reputation as a destination in its own right. What sets the space apart physically is New Jersey's only rotating dining platform, a slow-moving booth that gives guests a full sweep of the skyline over the course of a meal. Most diners, apparently, don't notice they've moved until the view has shifted entirely.
The kitchen works a refined Modern American menu shaped by global influences — a philosophy that plays out across a menu spanning wood-fired flatbreads, a serious raw bar, chef-crafted pastas, and a dedicated sushi program. Starters lean into contrast and craft: black truffle Gruyère croquettes, whipped house-made ricotta with focaccia and New Hampshire maple syrup, spicy bluefin tuna rice cakes with wasabi tobiko and avocado crema, and tuna tartare with Asian pear and citrus ponzu on farro chips.
Signature entrées include house-made pappardelle with Hudson Valley duck confit, lobster bouillabaisse, and a bone-in short rib finished with Drift's own Five Spice blend. The Prime Outside Skirt Steak from Snake River Farms arrives with a coffee-and-palm rub and chimichurri, while the miso-glazed black bass and grilled branzino with dashi beurre blanc anchor the seafood side of the menu.
The Japanese-influenced sushi program sits comfortably alongside the broader American menu rather than feeling like an afterthought. The Miyazaki Roll — spicy lump crab and avocado topped with seared A5 wagyu — is one of the more distinctive offerings, while the Drift Roll pairs akami and mango with flame-torched toro. A raw bar rounds things out with East Coast oysters, local littleneck clams, jumbo prawn cocktail, and a full seafood tower.
Drift's wine program earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2025, a recognition that reflects the care put into a list designed to pair with both the American and Japanese sides of the menu. Happy hour runs weekday afternoons in the bar and lounge, and the 100-foot bar anchoring the main room is a destination of its own for waterfront cocktails at sunset. Private dining options include a wine-lined private room, pergola-covered terraces, and full offsite catering — the latter featuring raw-bar displays and chef-attended sushi for events from board meetings to weddings.
