The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Hoboken Institution Since 1981

Court Street Restaurant & Bar opened its doors in 1981 with a straightforward mission: outstanding food in a comfortable environment. More than four decades later, that founding commitment still drives everything on the plate and in the glass. The restaurant describes its relationship with the Hoboken community as unchanged from day one — the same warmth, the same care, just more years of practice behind it.

The Room and the Experience

Whether you settle in at the bar, claim one of the bar tables, or move through to the dining room, the atmosphere is described as comfortable yet elegant — a combination that can be hard to pull off but feels natural here. Service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which goes a long way toward explaining why guests keep coming back across generations.

The Menu: American and Seafood Done Right

The kitchen leans into classic American cooking with a strong seafood backbone. Starters set the tone well: jumbo U-12 shrimp cocktail, New England crab cakes made with jumbo lump crabmeat lightly bound and sautéed, clams casino with bacon and bell peppers, and smoked salmon with sour cream and dill. The French onion soup au gratin is made to order — the menu itself notes it's "worth the wait."

Seafood mains include a halibut Provençal served over risotto, filet of sole broiled or sautéed with lemon and butter, shrimp scampi over rice or pasta, and a beer-battered English-style fish and chips. On the heartier American side, a 16 oz New Zealand rack of lamb with rosemary and roasted garlic and a 10 oz grilled filet mignon with bordelaise sauce anchor the steaks and chops section.

Weekly specials add reliable rhythm to the calendar: Monday is Prime Rib Night — a 16 oz prime rib with soup or salad, vegetable, and potato — and Wednesday brings Lobster Fest, a 1¼ lb steamed lobster with the same accompaniments.

A Wine List Worth Noting

The wine program earned Court Street a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, recognition that reflects genuine depth and curation rather than a token list. The restaurant highlights its wine-by-the-glass selection as a particular point of pride, making it easy for any guest to find something that works regardless of what's on the plate.

Sunday and Beyond

Sunday opens with brunch before transitioning into a full dinner service — a detail that makes Court Street one of the more versatile tables in Hoboken for weekend plans. The breadth of the menu, from a kids' section to rack of lamb, means it works equally well for a casual weeknight dinner or a more considered evening out.
