The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Modern Bar and Grill Rooted in New York Tradition

Cecchi's Bar and Grill sits on West 13th Street in the heart of New York City's West Village, the project of owner Michael Cecchi-Azzolina, whose years of experience in hospitality have shaped a room that feels both polished and genuinely alive. The space is described as beautifully lit, warm, and inviting — a place that captures the atmosphere and vibrancy of New York City's quintessential restaurants without resorting to imitation.

The Food: American Classics, Honestly Done

The kitchen, led by Chef Cesar Balderas, takes a clear-eyed approach to American cooking: keep the ingredients close to their truest form, then reimagine familiar dishes for a modern palate. That means steaks and chops from the grill, seafood sourced from Montauk, Long Island, and the rivers of upstate New York, and produce drawn from family-owned farms across New York State.

The dinner menu reads like a confident edit of the American canon. Standouts include a crisped Pekin duck breast with candied beets and beet-and-plum purée, a pan-seared pork chop with horseradish crème fraîche and honey whole grain mustard sauce, and a pan roasted wild black cod with cipollini onions and white wine butter sauce. From the grill, the 12 oz Prime NY Strip comes with fingerling potatoes and seasonal compound butter; the Cecchi's Burger, dressed with house sauce, American cheese, and pickled green tomatoes, has become something of a signature. Snacks like chips and caviar — black sturgeon caviar with house-made potato chips and crème fraîche — set the tone early.

The afternoon menu, served from 3 to 4:30pm daily, offers a more relaxed entry point: a Cecchitini flight, half-dozen oysters, lobster salad lettuce wraps, and the now-iconic New York Happy Meal — a martini and fries for $25, available daily at the bar during happy hour.

The Bar and the Bottle

The bar is staffed by what the restaurant calls some of New York City's most professional bartenders, and the cocktail list earns that confidence — from the Cecchitini flight to the "Wake Me Up & Fk Me Up" (reposado tequila, espresso, coffee cordial) and a solid zero-proof section. The wine program, which earned Cecchi's a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2025**, ranges from Crémant de Bourgogne and Roederer Champagne to Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and a Margaux by the glass — a breadth that reflects genuine curatorial intent rather than a perfunctory list.

Who It's For

Cecchi's works as well for a quiet dinner for two as it does for a lively evening at the bar. The front-of-house team, described as industry veterans, keeps the energy right without overreaching. For anyone who wants serious American food and a well-chosen glass of wine in one of New York's most storied neighborhoods, this is a room worth knowing.
